Bob Reynolds’ transcription process

by Bob Reynolds Get exclusive music

This is a preview from a series of podcasts I recorded with my buddy (and old Berklee College of Music roommate) Scott.

Marcelo is curious to learn about Bob’s transcription process. Bob and Scott first take a musical detour through the past. After they revisit a tune from their college roommate years, Bob talks about how he transcribes.  He covers his approach in depth and weighs the pros and cons of real tempo transcribing and slowed down transcription methods.

Show notes

  • Jerry Springer – Too Hot for TV
  • Bob’s tune “I’ll Come Out of this Chair at You” [PDF]
  • Joel Frahm’s website
  • Michael Brecker – Syzygy
  • Bob breaks down Michael Brecker’s solo on “Syzygy”

Like to hear more of these? Love to hear your thoughts in the comments.

Best part of this podcast? “Transcription is as close to a cure-all as it gets.” So true!
Thanks for this podcast, Bob! Also this part — transcription at tempo … yes!
