Joni Mitchell’s Both Sides Now – with Vince Mendoza’s orchestral arrangement

by Bob Reynolds Get exclusive music

I keep meaning to make a video about this, and probably will, but I just listened to this song again and need to share it with you. It’s SO beautiful. Haunting. Stirring. Moving. Just gorgeous. Vince Mendoza’s orchestral arrangements will give you goosebumps. And Wayne Shorter’s cameo is just sublime.

It had been probably 20 years since I last hear this song/album and wow. Just wow.

The string ostinato at the top… and the cadence at the end, where it first resolves to minor (5:15) before finally landing on major—and Wayne’s Sus2 to 3rd resolution.

Enjoy.
